COVID-19 Safety Guidelines
1. Be sure you are complying with your state and local laws.
Each state, county, or province has been affected differently and therefore they will begin opening at different times. Research the area you are traveling to (and through). Many areas are still actively discouraging outside visitors so as to ensure that new COVID cases are not introduced. There are also many states that requiring a 2-week quarantine if you are traveling from a state with high COVID cases. In addition, many areas require the use of face masks at all times. When showing up to your host location in these areas be sure to wear your face mask when greeting your host.
2. Greet each safely by physical distancing.
We feel this is key to making Boondockers Welcome a safe camping option. You can certainly still visit with each other, but interactions should always be done outside while being sure to keep at least 6-feet apart. If greeting your guest or host requires you to be closer than 6 feet or to be indoors for any reason, please don a face mask for everyone’s safety.
If you would prefer that your guest or host wear a mask even when outdoors and more than 6 feet away, please communicate this prior to arrival to ensure that both parties are on the same page.
3. If using or providing hook-ups, clean and disinfect the hook-up connections before and after a stay.
If both guests and hosts do this it will help ensure that the area is sanitized properly. The use of gloves will help when connecting and disconnecting as well.
4. If possible, hosts should adjust guest space to ensure there is enough room for movement without coming in close proximity to each other.
This may not apply to all host locations but if your parking space is right next to your house, just be sure there is ample room for movement for you and your guest without coming into 6-feet of each other.
5. Wash your hands frequently.
You’ve heard it a million times so we won’t go into the details. To help entertain you while you’re washing your hands you can sing one of these 20-second songs.
6. Limit or restrict access to certain high-risk shared amenities.
We know some of our hosts offer access to their bathrooms, showers, pools, and grills. Try to limit access to these types of amenities or be sure to sanitize them frequently.
7. Provide clear parking directions to limit the amount of face-to-face time.
We know some hosts are used to greeting their guests and helping them set-up properly on their site. This is totally fine as long as you can do it while properly social distancing. If you can’t then be sure to provide clear directions in your messages with the guest prior to their arrival. Or have them call when they arrive so you can guide them via phone.
8. Update your host location profile to include any specific guidelines or instructions for guests to adhere to while they are visiting.
Every host is going to be different, which could be based on the area they are in or on their own personal health concerns. If you have specific guidelines you would like your guests to honor while they visit, please include them in your profile or be sure to communicate it to them in your message.
9. Please cancel your stay if you feel ill.
While it may seem obvious to not travel if you are not feeling well, it may not be top-of-mind to cancel your stay with your host. However, properly canceling your stay with your host is very important. It not only lets the host know that you will not be arriving, but it also opens the dates up for another guest who may need a safe place to park. This goes for hosts as well, if you feel sick please cancel your stay request. This will help ensure that everyone stays healthy.
10. Do what makes you feel the safest.
If you are a host and just do not feel safe accepting guests during this time, that is fine! As always, you can accept or decline any guest for any reason. You can temporarily block dates off on your calendar, deactivate your listing or just decline guests as you receive a request. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. As a guest, if you are uncertain about staying at a host location, please ask them when requesting the stay if they are practicing social distancing and/or wearing a mask.
We know everyone is eager to get out there and start traveling again (or just leave your house!), and we want to continue offering our great service in a healthy and safe way. Our members mean a lot to us and we’re so happy that we can provide a safe way to camp and travel during this time.

We have 70 beautiful acres nestled on the rim, towering 800 ft over the Deschutes River and the head waters of Lake Billy Chinook in gorgeous Central Oregon. We are just starting to work our land to add more accommodations for guests to enjoy, so in the meantime we have cleared several areas that are easy to access. Horses are also welcome…. lots and lots of trails to be ridden. Surrounded by BLM and State Grasslands …. the outdoor possibilities are endless.
The property we offer to Boondockers Welcome is on Snow Creek Road, adjacent to our home (across a side – road 28th St). We live near Hickory, NC – 50 miles north of Charlotte; midway between Asheville and Winston-Salem; 50 miles down the mountain from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock. Lenoir Rhyne University, Catawba Valley Community College, the Hickory Speedway, and the Crawdads Baseball Stadium are each about 30 minutes from our home.
